Our FREE collection services have provided a convenient and friendly way to dispose of unwanted, non-working, or obsolete e-waste. Computers, TVs, monitors and other equipment are recycled or re-purposed as much as possible. Customers that contract with GreenMouse to have their electronic waste removed on a regular basis can depend on its friendly and hard-working team to collect and properly recycle their electronic waste. Further, we provide our customers with confidence that their end-of-life equipment will be recycled according to the rules and regulations set forth by the State of California (Department of Toxic and Substances Control) and have created a single set of standards that serve as a basis for following those guidelines.
Of the nearly 2.5 million tons of electronic waste generated by Americans every year, only about 20 percent is collected for recycling, according to government estimates. At least half of these TVs, computers, cell phones and other gadgets are shipped off to developing countries in Asia and Africa, places where unsophisticated disassembly methods expose workers to lead, mercury and other chemicals that have been linked to a range of health problems.
Our commitment is to prevent e-waste from being sent for processing outside of the United States or "dumped" in landfills or incinerators. Most e-waste collected by our company is processed at GreenMouse Recycling for the purpose of creating local jobs. (See the video above - GreenMouse Recycling employees processing e-waste). The processed e-waste is then converted into metal and plastic scrap for resale.
Other items, such as televisions and monitors are processed at a California State approved recycling facility - ERI, Fresno, CA (www.electronicrecyclers.com). Additionally, Electronic Recyclers International is an e-Stewards Certified Recycler. The e-Stewards certification program for recyclers provides a high level of confidence to consumers that the recycler conforms to the e-Stewards standard for responsible recycling and reuse of electronic equipment. This includes adhering to the highest standards of environmental responsibility and worker protection.
Q. How much does it cost?
In most cases, there is no charge. We are subsidized in part by the State of California to provide FREE recycling services (televisions and computer monitors) to businesses and individuals. However, there are restrictions that apply: (1) a television that is over 50" and/or needs to be brought to the ground floor may require a charge of $25, (2) if you are recycling a television(s) and/or monitor(s) on behalf of another individual(s) or business(s), you may be charged $25. For example, you manage or own rental property and a vacating tenant moves and discards the television at the property and you decide to recycle this item through GreenMouse Recycling, you must provide us with the name and address of the television owner, as required by the State of California. If you cannot provide us with this information you will be charged accordingly.
